Useful post when I become a Dad

September 9th, 2007

Just finish reading a post from DumbLittleMan and find this article particularly useful when I become one(a dad in the future). It’d be great to come back to this(if i’m still blogging) to remind myself of what needs to be done when I get really frustrated with my kids. I certainly hope I can be a cool loving dad in the future without using any punishment.

Here are some advice from DLM

  • Have a plan before hand
  • Learn the skill
  • Take a deep breathe
  • Walk away
  • Seek first to understand
  • Laugh it out

Firearm in Orchard

September 5th, 2007

Heard this radio news that a NSF was caught in Orchard with Sar21 and live rounds. This is a perfect example of when emotional part of the brain override the rational part as written in my previous post on Practical Intelligence.

For me, I really pity the guy for he is just 1 month away from ORD! His future is gone just in a day. This really give me a wakeup call on how 1 day can change a person totally. On on part I hope that the judge can be lenient on him but on the other hand, it really freak me out to know someone in orchard is carrying a weapon.

Comex at Suntec

September 1st, 2007

People say when one bad thing happen, others will follow. After my incident with IOM, I head down to Comex. Using the blue ocean strategy approach, I try to position myself earlier there for any bargain for my MacBook. Stupid people, good luck tomorrow if you’re going.

This is a list of what I bought.

  • Screen protector
  • Ventilation balls
  • Keyboard protector
  • Dicota sleeve bag
  • 1Gb Ram

These items really burn a hole in my pocket. More things to come after i go back and maybe I shouldn’t have laugh so early….

  • Having difficulty putting on the screen protector. Lots of bubble on my screen now.
  • Ventilation balls come with 2 less velcro sticker. How to put the balls up!!!
  • Spent 1 hr trying to unscrew the ram part without any success
  • Had to rush for the deadline for the submission of business plan with only 1 hour left.

Suddenly this saying pop up my mind: There’s no failure, only experience. *Trying very hard to convince myself*

What a day (feat. IOM aka Indian Old Man)

September 1st, 2007

I can’t help but find it a hectic day. Not to mention that god aint helping me either. Its been more than two months since I went back to Johor for my haircut. The moment I enter I find it very strange to have so much crowd in the early noon in City Square. Only from my hairstylist in Reds did I know that it’s Malaysia National Day. Such coincidence! Too bad that I did not wear read and white stripe or else I will get a free haircut. After the normal shopping and meal at Kim Gary, I head back to Singapore. Great! Safely there safely back.

In the train, I was 3 seat away from a grandma with the 2 seat between us empty. Some station later, an old Indian man board the train and hesitate a moment before choosing to sit beside me. Within ten seconds, he open his leg big big and ask me impolitely to give some space to his balls.

If you were me, what will you do?
a) argue with him
b) communicate with him in Mandarin in a funny way
c) politely tell him he’s in the wrong too
d) question what he had said
e) give in to him

I think I’m not smart enough and choose a instead. Shiitake! I cross the line but he also cross his. So what’s the matter. He still dare to say my parents never teach me to respect people. Yes my parents taught but in MY dictionary you have to earn it. What do you have done for Singapore in the first place for me to respect? After I calm down, I have formulate a 6 step solution to counter such incident from happening Again.

Step 1: Politely ask for his name (this is to shock him) and intro yourself as a student studying psychology.
Step 2: Question him out of the 2 seat, why he wanted to choose to sit beside me? And to do that, he is already opening a door for confrontation. So why he want to do that? Is it because I’m young and easier to take advantage of?
Step 3: Since his balls is so big why not take the next empty seat too?
Step 4: Tell him that there is no truth but only your truth, his truth and my truth. The truth is we have cross each other line.
Step 5: Tell him this is a public transport and we have to give and take for the people around us. Or he can choose to stand and other people will be glad to take it.
Step 6: If he taunt you for being quiet, kindly inform him that arguing in public is really stupid and you choose to be the clever one.

This is my 6 step solution to counter any such incident in train. Hopefully this will be helpful to anyone facing this situation in future. And I think that guy will throw up blood after I ask so many question that is so difficult to answer. Shiitake, how come I got so many ideas only after that. I must train myself to be more adaptable in such situation.

I’m not trying to be racist but from what I have encounter, most of such incident happen with old Indian guy. Anyone care to explain? I welcome incident with Chinese old man. Feel free to add comment to it.

ps: sorry Hong Sheng, never thought that this will happen to me.
