SMRT doing it the Japan way

April 30th, 2008

If SMRT wants to squeeze more profit, they should have do it the Japan way. Haha I don’t think anyone would wanna take train anymore in the future. But it’s freaking crazy to see the operators pushing people into the train. Awesome but I wouldn’t want to be one of them. This is what I called “pack like sardines”.

p.s: thanks for correcting me to change from china to jap

Event: The Open Room

April 28th, 2008

The Open Room is an interesting event for bloggers to meet up with other companies showcasing their stuff such as the latest Nokia N96, Canon camera as well as playstation and last but not least the wall-mounting pc able to issue touch commands somewhat similar to iPhone.

Of cos apart from that, it’s somewhat like a ping.sg blogger gathering with peeps like dk, jean, ridzuan (thanks for inviting me over), sabrina, sheylara, ntt, farinalli, jerrick, aaron, nadnut, Daryl, Ian and rinaz. Sorry if i miss out anyone. Well din get the chance to talk to Sabrina even though we met quite a number of times. Hope got opportunies next time though.

Yup yup next time must remember to get a Sony camera since it is the only way to get to take pics with some of them. Sony Erricson phone don’t work though. This is why you don’t see me taking pics with some of them.

Of cos apart from that, we are able to get up close and personal with John Bell (Managing director of Ogilvy), Brian and Tania from Ogilvy, Elvin Ong (Regional Mobility PR manager for intel), Supriya from Text100 and Ramesh Divyanathan from BMW group. Many of us is particular interested with the wall-mounting PC that looks like a oversize IPod.

Thanks to Ogilvy for hosting this event for bloggers and companies to get close and personal especially to get the chance to talk to Ramesh. He is an interesting guy to talk to especially on thought-provoking stuff on social media.

Thanks to ntt for mixing some cocktail and it gets me real red. Lucky, I’m still up for it. Next time let us try to down one whole bottle.

Well I will upload the pictures real soon as Jean, Ridz and Dk is blogging furiously and I want to be the first!

Chances of man winning argument

April 28th, 2008

Well I think the picture doesn’t correctly represent the truth. For me, I think its more like couple will naturally quarrel so as to be right or trying to change another person to himself/herself. But then during engagement, the guys will usually try to let the girl win it because for the sake of having some peaceful time after work. But after marriage period, the guy is so tired with arguing that he would rather spend time sleeping and hence always let his wife win. It is not after marriage that the chances of man winning argument is lower k?

Oh no, I hope I won’t get slam again.

BP (bee-pee)

April 27th, 2008

Thanks Adlina for sharing such intellectual joke. I really had a good laugh over it.

BP (bee-pee): ”

I received this email, enjoy! :

A man was driving down the road and ran out of gas. Just at that moment, a bee flew in his window.

The bee said, ‘What seems to be the problem?’

‘I’m out of gas,’ the man replied.

The bee told the man to wait right there and flew away. Minutes later, the man watched as an entire swarm of bees flew to his car and into his gas tank. After a few minutes, the bees flew out.

‘Try it now,’ said one bee.

The man turned the ignition key and the car started right up. ‘Wow!’ the man exclaimed, ‘what did you put in my gas tank’?

The bee answered,

How far should a guy go on a date?

April 27th, 2008

I’m not very pro at dating and don’t consider if I ever had one. But one question often hit my mind. How far should a guy go in a date?

Is being touchy a show of disrespect to the girls. Of cos not the thigh! It’s quite fair if the girl gives you a slap and actually the sentence might be just too light. But on the other hand, playing it too safe might just bored the girls and the end of another date.

But as a noob in the field of relationship, it is quite hard to balance between trying to impresss her and being rude to her.

Well as I said I’m a noob, it’ll be pretty stupid for me to give advice. So is anyone willing to give guidance? How to judge is it possible to move the relationship to another level? Problem is the you don’t know when the girl gives the green light. They just play around with the guy’s mind.

ToSpeak

April 27th, 2008

I am glad to be invited for the movie screening for ToSpeak, which is held in United World College. Further more, it is more meaningful when I’m doing it for charity.

Tabitha is an organization behind this screening. They are a charity group helping out the poor in Cambodian. They are trying to raise money to add another 60 more wells. More than half of the people there are ang-mohs and it is heartening to see auntie Patsy and uncle Freddie getting along well with their life as well as to see the gang like Kevin, Victor, Edmund, Shimona and Ying Wong.

I left early so I don’t quite know how’s the sales of the CDs but it should be good cos it includes 3 other songs that are not available on the website.

Uncle Freddie presented a inspiring speech. It is even more encouraging to see that he is living well 5 months after Reuben passed away. It’s already 5 months. Time reall flies. But I think to a mother, it is really much worse.

The story is set in a village in Cambodia where the people in the village are very poor and have no hope for the future. They are always trap in the cycle of poverty and their earnings came from chipping stones under the hot sun day in day out and the person buying is a shrewd businessmen. Because of the influence of the pol pot army in the past, the people lost all hope of getting a better life. They don’t have money for daily neccessities let alone medicine.

Ratana, a 16yo girl, is perplexed by the fact that why is other village having a better life than them. With clean water from wells and a roof to shelter them from rain and sun. So she seek help from the Tabitha organization to start saving at the opposition of her families as well as village. The problem of the village is so bad that they are living day for day. Not enough money for rice and some meat.

She had to save 0.25 USD per week for 20 times. She had her 2 siblings cutting grasses to sell to a farmer and work overnight to chip the large rock into stones as well as to wake up early in the morning to fetch water from other village (where she get to admire houses made of wood and metal foil). She went through many power struggle with her mother and almost had to give up the saving plan with Tabitha on the 10th time where she will be able to get her principle plus interest.

It is quite lucky they managed to iron the thing (if only every organisation is this flexible) and let Ratana get her first interest to realise her first dream of getting a bag of rice for her family. The chief relented his position and decided to find out more about it. The situation improves after the villagers all start saving for small stuff. Another power struggle is went through to get all villagers to save for a well. It is quite creative for Ratana to come out with the idea for all the kids (responsible for fetching water) to go to the work place and start massaging their hand as a show of defiance to the adults.

Of cos it all doesn’t end well here. Ratana’s mother died of sickness and she was so fed up with her situation that she wanted to leave the village with her uncle. It is after many efforts by the other villages to hold them back and even wanted to adopt her other siblings. It is really a touching scene back here. The girl next to me was crying.

Nonetheless, the village got wipe out by a flood but because they’ve got their savings with Tabitha organization, they were able to rebuild the village faster.

This movie hit me deeply to see how she defy all odds to do what is wanted to do - to get a better life. Yet sometimes, she is so down but was fortunate that her friends gave her a helping hand to go through the bad patch.

I think it works the same for every person. One should always help, to do something great for others not in the mind of getting something in return. It will come a day when you need some help from others, be it something as simple as words of encouragement.

Reuben, even though you’ve gone, you still are doing great things for the kids in Cambodia. You’ve not died in vain. No regrets ya?

Review: Forbidden Kingdom

April 27th, 2008

I like the show because of ahem … Liu Yi Fei. Jokes aside, the storyline might be a bit far-fetch together with the inconsistent for the use of language (sometimes mandarin sometimes english) but the storyline is really interesting as well as the fighting scene between Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

When you have two kung-fu master in a movie, it’s just too good to be true when you have one of them is already a guaranteed box office.

With the two of them again, the fighting scene is already mouth-salivating.

When you have Liu Yi Fei, you will just kinda forgive the kind of English she’s speaking and every negative points you have for the movie (sorry, I still can’t accept her mentioning herself as her. Why not use me or I instead?).

Next comes the storyline. It is within one’s expectation (bcos I read the review) but still have some refreshing elements inside. But the problem is they anyhow anyhow switch language. Sometimes mandarin, sometimes english. Aiyo.

Verdict: A must watch (bcos other movie currently screening cmi) and I give it a 8 out of 10.

Candidate for the worst movie in 2008

April 27th, 2008

It’s been a long time since I slam a movie. Usually, I’m quite forgiving but this one really went too far.

Vantage point is one of them and particularly stressful to watch because everytime you will guess, “Is it going to rewind?”
Ridzuan Ashim

It is not until I watched Doomday with the usual gang. It’s so bad that if possible I will give it a negative score. The plot it’s so bloody bad and illogical that everyone except Ridzuan finding it entertaining (scratch head, really meh?).

The story line is too far-fetch for me to link everything up because it’s just too unbelievable. Everyone was expecting this to be a zombie show but we don’t see any zombie. Instead we got a LOTR sequel. From the rock punk group of people to the medieval knights to the highly advanced era. How they link up together is really way too…

Verdict: even if you download it, you’ll find it a waste of time to watch it.

Waking up at 1300

April 25th, 2008

Yes, I just woke up from my slumber. It’s been a long night or rather long morning as I stayed in Mac to chit chat with Neo and Ridz till 8am. I think it’s the right decision to ask Neo to come over from the event. Who says only girls are good at talking? Seems like we are one level up and my mouth is parched from one whole day of non-stop chattering. Just kidding :P

Throughout the conversation, it just brought me back to my times in minor where we get to think and engage in deep conversation. This is just one of the topic we talk about.

Supposedly Sim Wong Hoo let go of his control of Creative, what is your next step if your’re Creative’s CEO?

It’s this type of question that force you to think and prepare you in case if you really step into the shoe of a CEO of a company. Of cos, I’m not amazed by their quality of answer. Though I’m not having such deep thoughts as the both of them, but I can feel myself improving and able to engage in such conversation which I would not be able to do back during my time in minor.

Of cos to a guy, politics is a unavoidable topic like would you support a bi-party system in Singapore just like in America?

And also business topic, since it’s like already in our blood. Microsoft’s relentless acqusition on Yahoo is also a must talk topic.

Overall, I feel there’s lots of facet in my life that I need to to improve to achieve the things I wanted. Like Paddy’s ability to open up a conversation and make people who are in the conversation relax and participate at the same time with his ahem.

Event: MediaMakers

April 25th, 2008

It’s very honored to be invited by Blog2U for this event. And I get to bring my “hot” friend Neo (sorry to elcocin for disappointment). It’s great to meet usual gang Jean and Alice and DK for the invitation. Oops I seems to forget Paddy. Paiseh paiseh.

mediamaker event poster

Its really beneficial to learn so much things from Paddy (okie don’t ask me about what I’ve learn. I’ve learnt a lot from him especially tips about networking *please give me more ads la 10,000 words is just too looong~~*). We get to talk to a very pretty lady from a PR company.

I get to indulge in such good food as well as for drinks. What can you expect from Geek Terminal :P

Yup. It’s 0445 right now. And it’s so much fun staying up and talk about everything in the world. Alright, it’s time for breakfast in Mac :P

Problem of working alone in Starbucks

April 24th, 2008

Every week I will spend 4-5 times in starbucks to do my work. I work in Starbucks because its really a nice environment to work in as well as to stay in touch with my group of friends.

However there’s still chances that I have to work alone without any kaki (friends) to jaga (take care) of my stuff especially my wife Apple (MacBook with Leopard installed). It’s been only 6 months into our “marriage” and I wouldn’t want her to go missing with all my important data like projects and especially my FYP.

I can’t imagine going up to my prof and tell him the project went missing because someone just stole my laptop. I think he will try his very best to help me stay back for another semester. :P

And hence if someone really steal my lappie, he will get himself pawned by Verey I. When he failed to log on to wireless network, and be faced with a password challenge. Failure to authenticate himself will send a email of the IP address, Wireless network, Mac address and Machine Serial number to my email and twitter account. What it means is that he’s totally screwed and if I’m fast enough, I can go to where he is and demand my “wife” back.

What’s best is that I can post the video captured by Verey I and blog about his misdoing (evil smile) to get more pongs.

See, now I can sleep soundly with my laptop.
