Finding love in SG Inc

Not another post of finding a mate, soul mate or whatever but my love for Singapore. It has become an issue for most of us. I don’t know I ever love Singapore the same level before I took up Work and Travel schemes to states.

Recently, I’ve been reading blogs on social politics from My Wang Say So, Military Life, Molly Meek and many others. Maybe I’ve been “poisoned” by their stories, their opinions, their views.

And just recently, I’ve picked up the post on 21% bill hike! So, gahmen had become so “creative” to squeeze the middle class. Many of the gahmen bodies have been privatised to give them the excuse so that the typical response would be “Oh sorry, we need to take care of the shareholder benefits.”

Well if we trace back the biggest shareholder, we will find that it’s pretty obvious. Now we have place ourself on the globe as Singapore Inc. And I’m so proud of it.

Sometimes, the older I’ve grown up, the less I feel loved by my country and vice versa. A country that is runned by “covered up” capitalism to fill up the pockets of you know whom. A country short with ideas other than to raise the price and to set up more ERP gates to earn record profits for corporations.

I’ve got no choice cos I’m born a Singaporeans. My families, my friends are all there. Partially I think it’s quite true. Due to the shrinking of the world due to globalization, skype and msn isn’t that bad right?

Is it us to be blamed for having the thoughts of migrating elsewhere?

Talking about globalization, I’ve been thinking is it really fair that the NSF and NSman had to protect 40% of the PRs where they do is to enjoy all the benefits without putting any blood or sweat in it. Will it come to the point that we have to protect half of the country populations where they come elsewhere to reap the rewards and will migrate elsewhere once they see the grass is greener over the other field?

Is conscription of army neccessary in this era anymore where we’ve enjoyed years of peace with M’sia and Indonesia? Isn’t it better if we have a professional army instead? Should the guys be made the scrapegoat to being condemned as a liabilities (due to NS call up) to the company he worked with for 10 years?

I’ve got a Taiwanese scholar friend who said he will migrate once he finished his studies in university. Is it fair for Singaporeans to be rewarded like this?

I only love Singapore for 2 things. Relationships I had and the food. Other than that, I really can’t find other reason to love Singapore more. I wish to love Singapore more but I can’t.

Being stupid or risky?

Well seriously I don’t understand what’s going through a girl’s mind. I have this female Russian friend of mine so enthusiastic to fly to Miami. There’s nothing wrong with going to Miami but the deal is just too fishy.

The truth is, she met this customer and he offered to pay for her ticket to Miami and lodging (hotel) for a week. Like a famous quote has said, “There’s no free lunch in this world”.

Seems familiar, doesn’t it?

It’s just too obvious what the guy is up to and yet she’s willing to take up his offer expecting that there’s nothing that she has to give in return. Hello hello, who in the right frame of mind will agree to that. I’m not the first to say so; another customer did.

I can only pray for her safety.

On the other hand, I’m wondering if girls are so driven by money? As much as I mean, I like money. A lot. But not enough for me to have the desire of maintaining a balance life. That’s why I reject an offer for more working hours.

I cringed at the fact that knowing that I’m single and that girls at my age will probably look at my financial status to judge how sellable I am. As the society progress, more and younger girls are looking at the financial side of the romance.

Is romance non-existent anymore? Seems like it’s more easy to buy love living in this era. Sad truth of life huh…

Moving out

I’ve got an American friend moving out to live in the dorm with the crew soon. What’s amazing is that he’s trying to pay less rent to his parents. Nothing to say. Salute~

Mizpah Hut, Mt Jackson hike

I had a hard time forcing myself to stay in the dorm and went for a hike instead. After much contemplation, I decided on the Mizpah, Jackson route. It turn out to be a nice hike which I completed in 5 hours. Now, my legs are aching all over.

The birds are really friendly as they hope around you and you can even stroke their head. ^^

View at Jackson is foggy due to weather but still I managed to take a fantastic picture of Washington Hotel.

Damn flies

Super irritating to have my windows shut cos I’ve trapped a fly between the window and filter. It’s been 4 days and yet the fly is still alive! Omigod… If I can catch it, I will sure cut away its wing.

Movie: Rocket Science

I bet many of you doesn’t know about this movie but to me it’s a really great movie that depicts the angst and struggle of life. The great part of this movie is that it doesn’t really have a climax but showing the way life as it is.

It starts with this high school kid born in a broken family, had a brother who likes to bully him for fun and a stuttering problem. It was then when he met Ginny from debate team who insist that he joined her. Imagine that you have stuttering problem and yet had to join the debate team? How many times in life you have to conquer your biggest fear? Public speaking is definitely one of them for many.

He tried very hard and partly motivated by the love he had for Ginny but never really doing it well. How many times you’ve tried your best but you did not get the result you want? I definitely sympathize with him and can relate with him very well. I flopped a storytelling competition in primary school, I flopped a presentation in university. For both, I tried very hard.

Seriously~ It is like a nightmare in my life. I got chided by my close friends. But like the main character, we are very stubborn and believe one special day we will be able to do it.

He fall in love and they had a passionate kiss. He got cheated as Ginny avoid him and change to the debate champion school. He’s angry, he felt cheated. But he tried even though he failed many many times and I had to admire him for that.

He failed in relationship like I am even though it’s for the different reason.

He seek out the legendary predecessor in his school who freeze suddenly in last year debate final. Of cos he’s too great to be freezing in front of other people, he had the look of feeling relieved, somewhat peaceful. They practise very hard in many many ways and ended up with using singing to help him to speak properly, which is quite creative!

They never make it past the first round because of ineligibility. He got real mad because he’s really making remarkable improvement even though its funny for him to debate as if like singing. I felt real sorry for him.

He interrupted the Ginny’s debate, show her the middle finger and ran away. He walk along the beach. Even until the end, he can’t even order a pizza properly. But when his divorced dad picked him up, he asked him about relationship and life. I can still see the determination on his face.

I would give this movie 9/10. I had trouble sleeping on that night relating on our similarities. Wondering what is life itself. Even though we would never know the ending but I believe determination will see him through.

Loud music increase beer consumption

Kudos to Psyblog for providing the reason to how noise level increase the beer consumption in bar. We are often manipulated without awareness and this research in essense tells us that bar/pub are noisy because it creates an environment that is hard for people to talk. When people don’t talk, they just drink.

Secret to washing burnt pot

Many of my peers dread washing the burnt pot. Pot that is used to cook vegetarian chili that can have stuff that is burnt and stick to the bottom of the pot.

Hee of cos I know it’s tough but I have formulate a way to clean it thoroughly. Having it soaked in water is only just a minor step and to do it???

Well well it’s a secret I’ll bring it to back with me to Singapore. ^^
