Ayam Penyet in NTU
This is my second time I’m having Ayam Penyet aka crushed chicken. The first tme is invited by Daphne with others at Lucky Plaza. I was literally sweating over there. Especially when I like to “suck” in food, the chilli together with the food always makes me cough. I definitely like the one over there because everything is just so right.
When I saw NTU canteen A also got it, it get me so excited that I had to order one. Sad to say, the quality doesn’t quite match up with my first encounter with Ayam Penyet. The curry sauce for rice is too saltish. The serving is also too small. The chilli seriously cannot make it. The tofu also is also not that fresh. Of cos, it ain’t fair comparing side by side with a well-established restaurant.
verdict: there’s a lot of room for improvement. If it does, it will definitely be a hit among the students.

wooo ur post made me hungry for ayam penyet again! haha let’s go eat it some time!
i love ayam penyet ria hehe.
im not satisfied with your opinion.
i.ve eaten the ayam penyet in NTU 6 times .
its true that the serving is $3 and its small but ive added 50 cents to add the rice more .ive eaten in lucky plaza 1 set $5 to $6 .the chili in NTU is more standart it is a food for all international cultures .
ive brought my friend from china .we went to eat in lucky plaza to eat the ayam penyet .went we got home and my friend feel unconfortable in the stomach because of the ayam penyet chili is to spicy .lucky plaza ayam penyet is only for malay and indonesian .
its NTU.. what you expect? you should know how sucky NTU is right?
Not all Ayam Penyet are nice. The ones at lucky plaza are authentic indonesian dishes. Maybe what you got from NTU are the singaporean malay versions. Some of these malay versions use chicken rice instead of plain rice. And their fried chicken are either super oily or saltish. Get the authentic ones for the real thing. [Woots… do I sound like a promoter?]
Anyway, since when ayam penyet got use curry? Or sauce? At most it uses sambal belacan… super hot one.
ayam penyet: well but seriously. they still need to improve the chilli sauce. you have to admit to this. it ain’t really standard either for belachan
zeezzen: ntu sucks all our money away. i’m glad i’m out
zek: i like the one over at lucky plaza just that the chilli is also way to overwhelming until it covered the original flavour of chicken. why? cos tongue is already numbed
hahaha… come next time i pour just the chilli for u… then I shall just take the chicken… including ur share.. hehehe. Numb, cannot taste mah.
btw.. maybe ayam penyet in NTU is not nice for you guys. but there are many people like it and enjoy it. we can see the fact what?
all people have different taste..
in ayam penyet NTU added curry is to improve the taste .
it is added curry and sauce is because ayam penyet NTU is more special than others..
do you know the difference between $3 and $6 ???
ayam penyet NTU opened not until a month .it is already famous .but why you guys say that bad about ayam penyet
NTU?
chicken penyet: let me put it this way. there are many possibility why this is so. Like for example it’s their first time trying it out.
Personally, it’s only a 6.5/10 for me. I still prefer the one over at lucky plaza. Isn’t it like comparing china camera with iPhone using price as factor? Sorry Xiaxue for using you as analogy. Anyway it’s just my opinion on it and like what you say everyone have different taste
And it’s not really wise to bring the price factor in too. Price wise they have to make it cheap cos we’re still student. The ayam penyet is good when compared to other food within the canteen but not when comparing to more established restaurant at lucky plaza.
Needless to say, the one in lucky plaza is better, but not much better i think..
I think the chicken is not that small, and the sambal is pretty nice.. Well, i was quite surprised they add curry on it (i asked them not to put curry the 2nd time i bought it. The curry seriously destroys everything!!!)
Since its opening, i had the ayam penyet 5 times, so it cant be that bad right?
if you think ayam penyet ria in lucky plaza is nice .
so no need to eat in NTU [ayam penyet GITA] loh ..
every ayam penyet has different taste .
so dont complain so much . mouth is only one .
God created us with mouth to taste but not for complain so much .
ayam penyet: i think lets stop this thing and just accept it as everyone has different preference. Who knows there can be a better ayam penyet somewhere.
You last sentence is quite flawed. I wouldn’t agree with it. It is like asking people to agree to what you are saying.
benny: haha I think so. But it’s a great improvement with the new canteen. Just that price-wise it can be not too affordable for students.
This morning i went to eat in NTU ayam penyet i try a new menu [Ayam Gita”rasa manis 炸雞甜不辣] .its yummy.
try it is nice .

According to my Malaysian friends, Ayam Penyet means crushed chicken. It’s very true to a great sense… The chicken served are very tender that it’s easily detached from the bones although they are fried.
This malay stall in the new canteen has gain recognition from students’ mouths-to-mouths’ words! It costs simply $3 with rice and a chicken part (guys may choose to add rice?). Besides the ’soft’ chicken, the selling point is the neat decoration of the simple dish. The drumstick(topped with tiny crumbs) is placed on top of the banana leaf with cucumbers, fried tou fu slammed with generous amount of sambal chill, satisfying the ‘pre-eating feel’. You can choose to add more sambal chill or the sweet indonesian sauce to further enhance the taste!Fo Broadway Foodcourt - Ayam Penyet Ntu Canteen A Stell No:11 Nasi padang Gita
