Finding love in SG Inc
Not another post of finding a mate, soul mate or whatever but my love for Singapore. It has become an issue for most of us. I don’t know I ever love Singapore the same level before I took up Work and Travel schemes to states.
Recently, I’ve been reading blogs on social politics from My Wang Say So, Military Life, Molly Meek and many others. Maybe I’ve been “poisoned” by their stories, their opinions, their views.
And just recently, I’ve picked up the post on 21% bill hike! So, gahmen had become so “creative” to squeeze the middle class. Many of the gahmen bodies have been privatised to give them the excuse so that the typical response would be “Oh sorry, we need to take care of the shareholder benefits.”
Well if we trace back the biggest shareholder, we will find that it’s pretty obvious. Now we have place ourself on the globe as Singapore Inc. And I’m so proud of it.
Sometimes, the older I’ve grown up, the less I feel loved by my country and vice versa. A country that is runned by “covered up” capitalism to fill up the pockets of you know whom. A country short with ideas other than to raise the price and to set up more ERP gates to earn record profits for corporations.
I’ve got no choice cos I’m born a Singaporeans. My families, my friends are all there. Partially I think it’s quite true. Due to the shrinking of the world due to globalization, skype and msn isn’t that bad right?
Is it us to be blamed for having the thoughts of migrating elsewhere?
Talking about globalization, I’ve been thinking is it really fair that the NSF and NSman had to protect 40% of the PRs where they do is to enjoy all the benefits without putting any blood or sweat in it. Will it come to the point that we have to protect half of the country populations where they come elsewhere to reap the rewards and will migrate elsewhere once they see the grass is greener over the other field?
Is conscription of army neccessary in this era anymore where we’ve enjoyed years of peace with M’sia and Indonesia? Isn’t it better if we have a professional army instead? Should the guys be made the scrapegoat to being condemned as a liabilities (due to NS call up) to the company he worked with for 10 years?
I’ve got a Taiwanese scholar friend who said he will migrate once he finished his studies in university. Is it fair for Singaporeans to be rewarded like this?
I only love Singapore for 2 things. Relationships I had and the food. Other than that, I really can’t find other reason to love Singapore more. I wish to love Singapore more but I can’t.

As a Singaporean student currently not in Singapore, I have to agree with what you said. I, however, don’t think that its a case of being “poisoned” by material online, but rather, the more of the world we see, and the more we grow up, mature and is able to think out of the solid steel cage that is the Singapore education system, we who can think independently will naturally come to a conclusion as such.
I think its gonna be very scary to our you know who if more and more people start to think like this.
But too late. Many before us have left and never will return. And only more will join them.
I couldn’t agree more.
The NS liability is one of my main frustration with Singapore - my unit has a minimum of at least 3 weeks call-up every work year, and there’s still RT and all to top it up. It disrupts my work, my career, my holiday plans and my work-life balance.
“I only love Singapore for 2 things. Relationships I had and the food. Other than that, I really can’t find other reason to love Singapore more. I wish to love Singapore more but I can’t.”
My sentiments exactly. A Singapore citizenship is more of a liability than an asset.
I can’t agree with you more. Especially hate the NS liability bullshit.
such a depressing article…. because i feel the same way too! *cries*
there are only two things we suck on in singapore, just to get by in life. the thumbs on our hands; and the appendages of the establishment.
i’m with you. you’re on sgfrag.net
Don’t see it as poison, see it as having the truth revealed to you as it is, without the rose-tinted lenses that the national media would like to paint to you.
2.5years is a lot of time. ICTs till we’re middle-aged is a hassle. BUT it’s worth the sweat and time if it’s for the defense of my country - a country that reciprocates my sacrifices.
By giving away PR and citizenship to individuals who have little (if any) vested interests in this country is a spit in the face of our sacrifices.
All male Singaporeans have sacrificed years - some literally sacrificed their lives - for NS. Giving away the right to live and work here in a fire sale is not reciprocation.
All this is on top of the fact that my views don’t matter in the running of my country.
It makes me wanna leave.
Haha looks like we’re all jealous that our “mother” is adopting new children and giving them an equal amount of what we have even though they wasn’t there for our “mother” when she needed someone to protect her? Now we are mad at our “mother”?
Yeah I agree. I’m mad at our “mother” too. Why does she love these adopted children equally as us? Why does she even need these adopted children and wants us to call them brothers and sisters?
So what can we, the true brothers and sisters, do?
I think a lot of guys especially share the same sentiment BUT the problem is our views are not really taken in consideration anymore (except during election).
In army, we LL have to suck thumb BUT do we have to do that for the life we’re suppose to live. I hate to think about migrating when I spent 20 yrs here with so many of my friends.
I like this blog ! UP UP UP !!!
As in an internation or globalised nation, the thinking must be universal and comparable to others in the world.
At one time, the Govt was worried of S’porean leaving S’pore for good or better land but after some thought, S’porean are encouraged to move out and have a direct feel for themselves to realise the differences in life and to do their own judgement to stay out or to move back. As mentioned Taiwan experienced the same thing in the early development of the island but many came back to set up the silicon valley of their own at Shimen Dam area and flourish in concept.
Take a look and read up on the development of S’pore for the past 43 yrs and compare to others that till now is still in their infant stage. It is all individual choice to pick the right points to consider or just to throw whatever good to one side because of self believe that they are no good.
If I am not doing my part time studies, RT can be considered killing time, but since I am doing my part time studies, RT is literally wasting my time.
The Singapore strategy is basically to screw those who cannot help it, give up on those who can (and do) leave and import people to replace them by offering them great terms (better than those given to locals - since locals don’t have a choice but foreigners do).
